A
Brief History
The Group was founded in 1975 and was the idea of Fr Renato Valente, then Rector of the new Mount Carmel College in the town of St Venera. The Carmelite Order had just finished building the new College and Fr Valente thought that a Scout Group would complete the environment he had in mind for his students. The Group was subsequently registered as a member of the Scout Association of Malta as an Open Sponsored Group. The name being Mount Carmel College Scout Group.

The Group Scout Leaders of the Group. Mr. Paul Pace Asiack, first GSL 1975 - 1980. Mr. Stanley Spiteri, second GSL, 1980 - 1990. Mr. Mario Calleja present GSL since 1993. A photograph of Mr. Alex Giacomotto, third GSL, 1990 - 1992 will be reproduced as soon as it will be available.
Mr.
Paul Pace Axiaq was the first Group Scout Leader and helped to build up the new
Scout Group into a very strong one indeed.
In 1980 Mr. Stanley Spiteri became GSL and
led the Group for ten years until 1990.
During this time the Group went through some troubled moments and in 1984
circumstances forced the Group to leave its birthplace to seek alternative
premises from where to operate. The name was changed to
Mount Carmel Scout Group (St Venera).
In 1985 the Group inaugurated its new premises from where it has operated ever
since. The
third GSL of the Group was Mr. Alex Giacomotto who led the Group for three years
until 1992. In June 1993 the Group
had its fourth GSL, Mr. Mario H Calleja, who still holds this position. It was under his leadership that the Group made its last name
change to become the St Venera Scout Group.
This was to come in line with a role it is now fulfilling within the St
Venera community.
